Volunteer Basic Training
Format: 24 hours of training over three days from 9:00 am to 5:00
pm
Content Includes:
- The Seven Fundamentals needed to counsel women experiencing
an unplanned pregnancy.
- How to speak the truth in love.
- The difference between ministry and manipulation
- How to identify a woman's S.O.S.
- How to exhibit the four qualities of an effective helper
in the counseling room.
- How to use the the RIGHT listening skills to connect with
a client.
- Determine God's job, volunteer's job and the client's job
in the counseling room.
- The 3 stages of sexual involvement and what a woman needs
from her counselors in each stage.
- Understand the process of evangelism in the Pregnancy Center
ministry.
- Recognize and take advantage of teachable moments in the
counseling room.
- Extensive role-play to apply the use of the skills in real-life
and the counseling room.
- Experiential exercises that draw upon each trainees own
story and personal reflections.
Training the Trainer Seminar
Format: 24 hour training over a 3-day period from 9:00 am to 5:00
pm each day.
Content:
- Roles and responsibilities of a trainer.
- How to be a facilitator of learning.
- How to move from a lecture-based training to and experiential-learning-based
training.
- How to help volunteers learn the Seven Fundamentals of
crisis counseling.
- The unique needs of adult learners.
- Choosing visuals aids to match your training needs and
personal style.
- Teaching methods designed for auditory, visual and kinesthetic
learners.
- Practice designing and facilitating experiential learning
experiences.
- How to ask probing questions to help trainees apply their
new learnings in the counseling room.
- How to set up and facilitate role-plays for maximum learning.
Equipped To Serve Provides:
- Contracted hours of instruction
- Camera-ready brochure(s) personalized to advertise the
training in your area.
- Samples of client intake forms.
- Consultation with Center staff concerning On-The-Job and
Inservice Training to incorporate new trainees into the counseling room
and to hold volunteers accountable for the Seven Fundamentals learned in
the Equipped To Serve basic training.
Sponsoring Center Provides:
- Training fee.
- Transportation. Airfare or mileage, if I am within driving
distance from my home near Denver, Colorado.
- Housing and meals. I am willing to stay in a private home
given I would have my own room.
- Training advertising and registration.
- Ordering and purchasing of manuals from Equipped to Serve
at least 2 weeks in advance of training.
- Training materials and supplies. A list is provided of
these materials along with the training contract.
